Small tricks to help your lock & keys

CA Locksmith offers lock repair/ replacement, key cutting and more…

While you may not think of your lock & keys as the most valuable pieces of property you own, it still makes sense to treat them with respect. There is nothing more disappointing and frustrating than arriving home with a heavy bag full of groceries and not being able to open the lock quickly and smoothly because your lock & keys have been damaged due to improper use.

If you have had this happen to you before you may not know that there are a few simple inexpensive tricks you can try before you call your local locksmith service.

If your key will turn in your lock, but the lock will not open you may have a problem with the lock mechanism which could be broken. It is possible to remove the lock and replace it yourself, although if you don’t have proper experience with this you may want to think about hiring a locksmith.

If the only way to open your locked door with your keys is to use all your strength then you may just need to lubricate your locks. A popular choice for lubricating locks is graphite power or silicone spray. The lubricant can be inserted into your locking mechanism by applying the lubricant to the key and turning the key inside the lock over, and over again. If this method does not fix the problem then your lock could be broken and you will need to call a lock & keys service to replace it.

If you were turning your key inside the lock and the key happens to break off you can first try using a bobby pin to get it out. If this turns out to be unsuccessful then you will need to either have the lock repaired or replaced by a professional.

So remember the next time you have trouble opening your lock with your keys, there are a few little tricks you can use to try to fix it. Although if this doesn’t work it is best to call your local locksmith.
